Brown = Relevant to Cosmic Clockwork
Purple = Relevant to Woah! Signal
Regular Blue = General character info, relevant to both.
Madison, sometimes nicknamed as "Maddie", is a full-time marketing consultant & a part-time babysitter- then later an astrophotographer. She is one of the two protagonists in Cosmic Clockwork, & later the deuteragonist of Woah! Signal.
She wanted to be an astronomer as a kid, but her struggles with math & physics have more or less crushed that dream into dust. Though she now believes she'll never achieve her dream of studying the stars, she still tends to keep up on learning about space in her free time. Not enough to be an expert, but enough that she knows a lot more about galaxies & nebulae than most in the general public.
One night, while babysitting Akeidat, Madison made a silent wish upon the Wishmaker's Comet to be a kid again, so she'd once again be a beacon of promise & potential. ...Well, wish granted! She's now stuck in the body of her younger self, reliving her childhood memories.
Guided by the angel Darius Esmakina & gaining the ability to communicate with a similarly time-swapped Akeidat in their shared dreams, she & the others have to find a way to return everyone back where they belong; before it's too late. In the meantime, maybe she can hang out with her old childhood friend, Charles, & work on a science project together.
After returning to the present, Madison eventually quits her marketing job & joins Gloomytown's Astronomy Hobbyist club in pursuit of being an astrophotographer. But when the local museum's moon rock is mysteriously stolen, causing the whole club to fall under suspicion, with Maddie as the only witness; she teams up with fellow amateur astronomer Stella Lyve to solve the crime.
❤️Personality
Madison is... tired. Disillusioned with adulthood & greatly disliking her job, Madison believes life has nothing left to offer her but more disappointment. She is sarcastic, witty, impatient, & easily frustrated- but doesn't have the energy in her to really do anything with her anger. It's... not like she has anywhere else to go, anyway; marketing seems to be the only thing she's good at, as much as she dislikes it.
She loves learning about space, & hates the fact that she has such a useless passion that she can't even academically or professionally pursue.
It's unintentional, but as a byproduct of her being in the marketing industry, & having next-to-zero friends outside of that; she's very used to seeing people as their consumer demographics, instead of their actual, individual personalities- causing her to make sweeping assumptions & generalisations about the people around her. On the flipside, her experience also means that she's good at debate & being persuasive, knowing how to spot & exploit the loopholes in others' arguments, drawing others' attention, or redirecting conversations to what she wants. It's... not something she's proud of, but it's a skill she has, nonetheless.
Though her anger is certainly justified, & she does have a right to be upset about the circumstances in her life; Madison often forgets that she's not the only one in the world with problems & struggles. She gets wrapped up in her own misery & struggles with showing sympathy- further accentuated by her tendency to dehumanise the people around her.
She's a compassionate person at heart, though; doing her best to be cordial & kind, hiding her frustration when in a professional setting. Aside from her general tired expression, she's never outwardly cruel to others. There's plenty of anger to go around, but she often ends up angry at herself for getting mad in the first place.
But even though she tries to be gracious, her bitterness & unwitting ignorance affects her actions & how she interacts with others much more than she realises.
By the time Woah! Signal takes place, Madison is much more easygoing & relaxed, though still somewhat quiet & prone to bursts of frustration. She's more open about her anger & impatience, but also has better ways of coping with it & expressing it in ways that don't hurt others. She jokes around more, but can certainly still take things seriously if she needs to; as well as being more openly compassionate & proactive, even to a stubborn degree. She's still cunning & persuasive when she needs to be, but prefers genuine, sometimes blunt honesty above all else.

💛Relationships
Akeidat: Madison & Akeidat are... strained, but civil around each other, more or less, and do both genuinely appreciate each other's company, even if neither of them often show it. They're both lonely & bogged down by the pressures of society & their peers to act all hoity-toity, but Madison's just Akeidat's babysitter, they're not coworkers or a teacher, so they subconsciously act more casually with each other than they would with others. Still, they're definitely not without their issues, and bicker a lot.
Initially annoyed at their parents for thinking they need a babysitter- they're 11, not a baby!- Akeidat didn't really care much for Madison's presence at first; quickly growing irritated at her inability to take anything they say seriously. But at least she's not as naggy; as long as they get their schoolwork done, Madison doesn't seem to care whatever Akeidat does. And, well... without their parents breathing down their neck, now that they have a babysitter; more time to themself for drawing & making games, right? Akeidat doesn't fully realise it, but they do feel safer expressing themself in Madison's presence, rather than their parents'.
Meanwhile, Madison's almost always been quite fond of Akeidat- even if Kei wasn't really fond of her- actively looking forward to babysitting them, as she considers it the least stressful part of her workday. She doesn't need to put up an act around them, and isn't very fussy as a sitter; usually leaving them alone to do whatever they want, as long as they eat dinner & do their homework.
But even though she means well; like Kei's parents, she never really... listens to their perspective on things, such as their problems & opinions; often coming off as a bit patronising. They're just a kid, they don't know what they're talking about, right? What do they know? She tries to be supportive about their interests, as she knows the sting of adults being unsupportive of her own passions; but like her own family, doesn't take it seriously. She tries to break the cycle of neglect by taking interest in Akeidat's hobbies; but often views it as just that- a childish hobby that they'll one day grow out of, and something for her to humour them with.
After returning to the present, Madison & Akeidat grew significantly closer; finally seeing each other's struggles & offering mutual compassion, eventually seeing each other as their own, true family. Madison comes to view Akeidat as basically her own child, while Akeidat comes to view Madison as something between an older-sister or surrogate-mother figure. She's affectionately nicknamed them 'Captain,' or 'Capt,' referring to their affinity for pirates.
Darius: They get off to a bit of a rough start at first- Darius finds Madison a little intimidating, and disapproves of how dismissive she is of any perspective other than her own, but he's generally too nervous too really bring up his gripes with her. Madison, meanwhile, thinks of Darius as being kind of annoying, and feels unnerved by his unusual appearance; because he's certainly an adult, but she can't pin down an exact age, as he has features of both a very young child as well as an elderly man, and it throws off her usual ability to segment people into market groups.
When they get to know each other more, however, their friendship grows. Darius comes to see Madison as brilliant & passionate, and far too self-deprecating for someone with a heart that shines like a star. Madison, meanwhile, grows attached to him as the first, actual, non-coworker adult friend she's had in a long time, and does sincerely appreciate, though is a little amused by his attempts to be caring, even though she doesn't really need it as much as Akeidat does. They rant to each other & would've loved to joke around with each other more.
After returning to the present, she misses him a lot. She hopes he's doing okay, wherever he is.
Charles: The two were childhood friends who first met in kindergarten, having been together up until Madison's fourth year of Primary School, when Charles mysteriously disappeared in the middle of the school year. Her memory of her old childhood friend is hazy at best, however; and somewhat tainted by her nostalgia & her longing to return to the so-called "simpler times". All she really remembers is that they used to have so much fun together, talking about their interests.
Though it's unintentional, Madison views Charles less as a person, and more as the heavily simplified & idealised image of what she believes is her childhood friend; admiring Charles for her purity & innocence.
After realising the truth behind Charlie's disappearance & returning to the present, Madison eventually tries reconnecting with her old friend; apologising for her dismissive behaviour in the past. While they're not close & barely know a thing about each other these days, they do try to keep in touch. Madison's trying to get to know & appreciate who Charlie is now, rather than the memory of who she was as a kid.
Stella: The two were acquainted in their mid-to-late-30s after both joining their town's local Astronomy Hobbyist club. They've always been on generally friendly terms with each other & talked occasionally, even finding one another attractive by appearance, but didn't really get to know each other on a personal level, until they accidentally became investigative partners to solve the theft of a moon rock.
Their personalities & trains of thought bounced off each other surprisingly well; with Madison's more casual & relaxed demeanour, contrasted by Stella's nervous professionalism; as well as Stella's factual knowledge & memory, with Madison's ability to connect it all together with practical logic. All that, along with their shared introverted-ness, interest in space, & desire to help make the world a better, kinder place in their own small ways; means they're opposites in ways that compliment & cover for each other, while similar enough for compatibility & teamwork.
They both feel like they're more appreciated just... as normal people around each other. It's not that they're particular unhappy with their lives at this point, but... they both know the weight of the expections of professionalism & status. Stella appreciates that Madison doesn't treat her like anything special, & Madison appreciates that Stella doesn't look down on her. They respect each other's choices & intelligence in a way that doesn't stem from preconceived notions of what they're "supposed" to be like- just... what they've learned from their experiences with each other; & what they've learned is that the other person is brilliant.
...& if that newfound respect & appreciation for each other from that brief experience as investigative partners, later develops into a mutual crush, well, that's not so bad, is it? They're both mature, responsible adults; surely, they'll both handle this with suaveness & style, right? (They do not. They're both head-over-heels in love with each other & acting like obliviously awkward giggling schoolgirls.)
Tessielorce & Alehis: Madison has a... difficult relationship with her birth family. While they genuinely cared for her & weren't intentionally abusive, more or less doing their best to provide for her survival needs; they never really... liked her as a person. They viewed her passion for astronomy as more of a childish pet hobby than anything real. When they learned that she had been rejected from the course of her lifelong dreams due to her poor grades, & was studying to become a marketer since that was the only course that would accept her; instead of offering any sort of comfort or condolences, they were all too happy that their child had 'woken up' & 'chosen a more realistic path'.
Tessielorce always thought Madison was a space-case with her head in the clouds, who’d ought to pursue something more realistic instead of earnestly fixating on her dreams of studying space- like being a businesswoman or something. Heh. If the dumb kid could even make it that far; she's certainly not gonna be a top scientist with grades like hers. She never paid much heed to what Madison wanted as a result; she didn't usually directly berate her, but it was kinda obvious from her condescending behaviour, teasing, and tutting, that she never really believed in her kid.
Alehis was more quiet. He was actually kinda curious about how far Madison would go to achieve her goals, and was generally more openly supportive of her hobbies, even being the one to buy her space-related objects & take her out for stargazing trips if she asked; but didn’t approve of her fiery, passionate approach to things. He kept his head down & wished for her to keep a low profile, too; but Madison always ended up sticking her head where it didn’t belong. He thought she was too emotional & urged her to suppress everything to save everyone the trouble. As a result, Madison didn’t know how to express things healthily, and her attempts at bottling only caused her to get angrier as a result.
Madison hasn’t made contact with either of her parents in years, since she’d moved out to her own apartment. They both miss each other dearly; but Madison's still holding a grudge, and her parents still haven't realised what they did wrong. Madison doesn't think her parents want anything to do with her, since she believes they always saw her as a mistake. Meanwhile, her parents believe Madison doesn't want anything to do with them, since she's so independent now.
🔬Random Facts
Her name is an anagram of the phrase, "I'm an adult person".
She, uh, speaks like this, with, uhm, a whole bunch of filler words &, uh, a whole bunch of weirdly placed laughs, y'know? Haha. It, uh, helps her with her nerves, haha.
Uh, being in the marketing industry means that she- sorry- it means that she knows how to project her voice loudly & with less stuttering for an audience; but, uh, that pretty much falls apart if she's, y'know, let her guard down, or, uh, if she's not reading from a script.
Haha; rose-tinted nostalgia glasses that made it feel like your childhood was amazing & so much better, when in reality you were struggling just as much back then as you are now, go brrrrr
She makes SO MANY cheesy space-based puns & expressions. They're mostly to herself, & she rarely says them out loud, but they're usually something along the lines of "Comet me bro", "This is taking longer than Neptune's orbit", "That absolute ASS....teroid."
She gets re-occuring headaches & migraines.
Her birthday, 24th April, is the launchday of the Hubble Space Telescope!
Has a starving Neopet (Or, well, the in-universe equivalent is called Geopets) that she's completely forgotten about until time-travelling to the past. When she gets back to present day, she feels immensely guilty about it, but also won't come back to the site, because she's a bit jaded about the company's dubious practices.
I couldn't figure out how to actually include it when writing WUTCC without it feeling too out-of-place, but I wanted there to be a running gag where since she's from 2022 but is stuck in 2000, she knows all the future memes & has to physically contain herself from bursting into laughter anytime someone says 'among us'. At some point, she posts an amogus meme on an ancient forum that goes completely unnoticed, until it suddenly goes viral circa 2020 via internet sleuths on the wayback machine.
Absolutely HATES wearing formal attire because it takes too long & makes her fur feel terrible, but she has to for work; so instead, everyday, she's just decided to lug on a random brown sweater she got for a discount at the store & if anyone asks, it's smart casual.
