Stella Lyve is the protagonist of Woah! Signal. A former physics teacher who recently quit after a near-death experience made her realise she found the profession unfulfilling, now a freelance investigative journalist moonlighting as a volunteer amateur astronomer in her free time; Stella is part of Gloomytown's Astronomer Hobbyist club; mostly specialising in the math & physics aspects of the hobby.
But when the local museum's moon rock is mysteriously stolen, causing the whole club to fall under suspicion, Stella teams up the only other witness they have, fellow amateur astronomer Madison Perultan, to solve the crime.
❤️Personality
Intelligent & observant, though also awkward & rambly; Stella's smart in many ways, though she falters in terms of social interaction or charisma; and while her memory & academic knowledge may be sound, she often lacks the broader logic it takes to connect it all together, often relying on others to help.
She's incredibly unconfident in herself & has terrible impostor syndrome when it comes to receiving compliments, believing any praise she receives to be unwarranted, seeing as she's still fumbling her way through figuring out her life & what she wants in her middle age. She desperately wants to avoid being a bother, and so rarely talks about herself or her own feelings, instead preferring to focus on whatever's happening in the present. She's... not exactly the shining example of self-esteem, but nobody else has to know that, right?
Despite her lack of social skills, Stella is generally kind-hearted, highly compassionate, & tries her best to be polite. Though she's awkward around others, she's worse when she's alone, and tends to spiral into self-doubt & depression when there's nobody else around. She tries to avoid being by herself because of this.
Deep down, all she really wants is to be able to make a difference in the world, through justice, exposing corruption, finding the truth, and helping others find closure; but she's too nervous to pursue all that in fear of messing things up and making things worse. She's constantly warring with herself over whether it'd be better to face the unknown for the greater good, or whether it'd be safer to just stay put. But when push comes to shove, she has a bleeding heart, and will set aside her hesitance if it means there's something she can do to help.

💛Relationships
Madison: The two were acquainted in their mid-to-late-30s after both joining their town's local Astronomy Hobbyist club. They've always been on generally friendly terms with each other & talked occasionally, even finding one another attractive by appearance, but didn't really get to know each other on a personal level, until they accidentally became investigative partners to solve the theft of a moon rock.
Their personalities & trains of thought bounced off each other surprisingly well; with Madison's more casual & relaxed demeanour, contrasted by Stella's nervous professionalism; as well as Stella's factual knowledge & memory, with Madison's ability to connect it all together with practical logic. All that, along with their shared introverted-ness, interest in space, & desire to help make the world a better, kinder place in their own small ways; means they're opposites in ways that compliment & cover for each other, while similar enough for compatibility & teamwork.
They both feel like they're more appreciated just... as normal people around each other. It's not that they're particular unhappy with their lives at this point, but... they both know the weight of the expections of professionalism & status. Stella appreciates that Madison doesn't treat her like anything special, & Madison appreciates that Stella doesn't look down on her. They respect each other's choices & intelligence in a way that doesn't stem from preconceived notions of what they're "supposed" to be like- just... what they've learned from their experiences with each other; & what they've learned is that the other person is brilliant.
...& if that newfound respect & appreciation for each other from that brief experience as investigative partners, later develops into a mutual crush, well, that's not so bad, is it? They're both mature, responsible adults; surely, they'll both handle this with suaveness & style, right? (They do not. They're both head-over-heels in love with each other & acting like obliviously awkward giggling schoolgirls.)
🔬Random Facts
Her name is a play on "Still Alive", but it's also Stella in reference to stars. Her full first name, Stellarium, is in reference to, well, Stellarium!
Her birthday, February 14th 1990, is not only Valentine's Day, but it's also the anniversary of the Pale Blue Dot photo taken by Voyager 1!
Her scars are from recently getting caught in a tornado event & getting several glass shards lodged in her side. It was the near-death experience that inspired her to quit being a teacher.
Has a really, really polite & old-fashioned vocabulary. She says things like, "Oh, dear!" & uses words like "Ergo," or "Verily". At the same time, though, she's soft-spoken, easily flustered, & stutters over her words a lot.
Almost always moving in some way. Even when she's standing still & not speaking a word; if you look a little closer, she's always fidgeting. Fiddling with the keys & phone & whatever else is in her pocket or in her hands, rotating her wrists, opening & closing her fingers & squeezing her hands, twitching her ears, flicking her tail, cracking her knuckles, scrunching up her snout, twisting her neck left & right- even if she's sitting down, it'll take about 2 milliseconds for her to start rapidly bouncing her leg & tapping her hooves. When she sleeps, she'll toss & turn for hours before settling into deep sleep. The movement helps her think clearly & scratches an itch in her head.
