Darius is the deuteragonist of Cosmic Clockwork. He's an ever-anxious angel with absolutely no idea how to use his divine powers, who may-or-may-not have been the one that accidentally caused Madison & Akeidat to wake up in their younger & older selves' bodies. ...Oops!
But it's okay! He's here to help guide them in their waking hours, & apparently (also accidentally) gave them the power to communicate across timelines in their dreams! Surely he's a very competent angel who knows what he's doing, right? There has to be some divine reason; a test of their wills, maybe; right?
...In truth, Darius is the soul of a recently-departed man; having died of a cardiac arrest at the exact time that Maddie & Kei made their wishes to be a child & adult. Darius' last thoughts were a wish of his own; he wished he had the time to grow old, but also wished that he could be young & healthy again.
In life, Darius was a man with very simple aspirations for his life; all he’s ever wanted was the stereotypical movie dream of settling down & having a family of his own. And though work & other responsibilities kept getting in the way, even if he’s too busy in the present, Darius remained hopeful about the future & believed everything would fall into place eventually, if he just kept waiting.
Then he died so suddenly; never having gotten to meet that dream girl & having that dream child. Now he’s in charge of getting two knuckleheads back home before he’s allowed to move on to whatever comes next.
❤️Personality
Cheerful, chattery, anxious. For all his ramblings & tendency to think out loud, Darius tends to be a bit mysterious, & doesn't say much about his past. He's a generally affable & pleasant person, though with a tendecy towards indecisiveness & procrastination. He's never one to stand out from the crowd; more like the kind of guy you invite to a party to be polite because everyone else is invited, but can never really remember the name or face of & have to check the guestlist to realise who he is.
Ironically, despite being an angel, he doesn't seem to have much faith in himself. He's insecure about not having done anything remarkable with his life before dying; he couldn't even achieve the one goal he had; so he just... lies about having always been an angel. The guilt is eating him up inside, but at least if he gives off the image of a wise & all-knowing figure, he can avoid disappointing anyone with the reality of his true self.
Darius genuinely wants the best for his new friends, wanting to help in any way that he can- though his advice tends to come off as a little preachy & dad-like. It's almost... desperate; like he's trying to convince himself more than anything.
