Improper Waste Management

  • Third class mentality being roaming around towards the people who reside in affordable housing.

  • There is a huge gap between higher-end apartments and affordable housing ways of handling the trash issue.

  • Not to mention the authority also a bit careless in handling this problem.


General Health & Mental Health Issues Among Residents

  • One in three people reported mental health issues in a national survey in Malaysia, a country with an urbanization rate of over 75%.

  • Penang Institute in 2017 further identified that low-income earners, the unemployed, young people aged 16-24, and women were at highest risk

  • Key challenges around mental health and its care are the shortage of trained professionals in psychiatry and psychology, cost of treatment of having to access private sector care and lack of coverage by health insurance

The Lack of Infrastructure Maintenance

  • Affordable housing defined as housing that can be accessed by the lower income group by not experiencing a financial hardship.

  • Ability of households to meet housing cost, while maintaining the ability to cover other basic living expenses.

  • Elevators, street lights and a well develop buildings are the main facilities needed by the residents at every housing area.

Prevalence of Crime

  • Vandalism, gangsterism and drug issue are common crime that happen at low-cost housing area.

  • IN 2009, PDRM reported about 494 cases involving vandalism and gangsterism at PPR and PPA around Malaysia.


Improper Waste Management

Waste management is a very crucial to be taking care of as if this area did not being monitor thoroughly it can lead to more and more issue among the residents.

Earlier in February 2021, 6000 residents at PPR Lembah Subang 1 said they lived with a pile of rubbish and congested drain for about a month after the contractor who responsible towards the waste management the has been terminated. They reported the issue to higher management but there was no responds at all.

Other than that, some residents has the behavior of this could-not-be-bothered that finally caused a death after a 15 years-old boy was struck by a chair that flung from the 21st floor at the PPR Pantai Dalam 3 years ago.

As death already upon us, government and managerial should focus more on how to cop this problem to not become worse.

General Health & Mental Health

The link between urban design and mental health was generally acknowledged. Consumer advocates, architects and planners were all aware of the linkages and considered them in their practice.

Reality hits straight before face when Covid-19 hits Malaysian in 2020. Citizens forced to be home to curb the virus infectious but we tend to forget some illness come from a place we call "home".

A place without proper air circulating, 12 people need to stay together for 2 weeks in 2 rooms house and few waking up to unpleasant scenery for long times.

As mental health problem rarely being said as disease, those people who suffered lonely or too crowd situation should be an example on why home need to be well construct. Home should be a safe and healing place for all and no human should be left out to have that feeling.

Vandalism and Gangsterism

It is either dwellers were really problematic or there is no prevention towards the issue at all.

Cars had been damaged, some stole the tires and not forgetting the parking lot issue that lead to a serious fights among residents.

The CCTV are always there however no follow -up action towards the crime happened that could help those in critical situation.

Drugs and Narcotics

Reported by Polis Diraja Malaysia (PDRM) from January up until August 2019, there were 844 and 1001 cases regarding the issues on drug among residents at PPR and PPA.

This could be harmful especially towards the teenagers because at this age generation they like to try something new and PPR or PPA always become the best location to produce and supply drugs.
