A lot of my first and few games were developed by GameHouse, Inc such as Puzzle Inlay, Maui Wowee and Splash. my first addictive game is adventure inlay by GameHouse.Inc. It's a jigsaw puzzle where the piece depends on the conveyor belt that slowly brings in new pieces on the screen. At that time, I was really addicted to those puzzle games as they challenge my mind to think on how to solve them. It is just a pity that it wasn’t compatible with the newest device and it sort of discontinued.
Right now, I am more obsessed with games that have a long ongoing storyline or achievements to get. The first part was mostly because I love how a story unfolds in the games with their enticing visuals and cutscenes. I haven't read all of it but I try to understand most of the storyline that the developers added, especially stories that are related to my favourite characters. The second part of the reasoning is that the need to collect achievement comes from my habits to hoard stuff. It became more apparent in my life after Chris introduced me to Steam in 2023. Now, I ended up playing most of the games that have Steam Achievement listed. I have about 40+ of searching games (not counting their DLC) that I have completed with 100% achievement, and some others in my completed playlist.
We talked about games as a live service entertainment, where the narrative of the game is never ending so long as the reception of the game is well received in terms of monetization and constant engagement. In this topic, I can speak of two games that I keep playing and stopping before playing it again; Honkai: Star Rail (HSR) and Ensemble Stars (EnStars).
Both games are different in terms of their canon universe and gameplay; HSR are mostly a turn-based, role-playing game that are set in a space fantasy world, while EnStars is an idol raising game through rhythm gameplay.
I personally believe that the game industry is calculating in attracting their audiences. I will stop playing a game that starts to feel boring to me, before new updates come and then I return to play the game. It was either limiting my engagement to prevent addiction, or engrossing myself deeply in the game. In the end, it all depends on myself to be aware of my game consumption.
