Pethomazoma means gathering of children.
After World War II ended in 1945, Civil War erupted in Greece from 1946-1949. During these years, Communist forces entered various parts of Greece and the forced evacuations.
The Communist forces first entered the three mountain villages of Lia, Vavouri, and Tsamantas on November 27, 1947.
Kostas My Story details a first-hand account of the Pethomazoma and the events Kostas, his mother, and siblings endured for several years after that day. Many other villagers endured a similar fate as they were taken from their tiny village to Communist Beloyaninis, Hungary.
The Map below highlights the location of their village in Greece and the journey to Hungary.
