Week 14: Korean Historical Controversy (Korea vs. China & Japan)
Historically, Korea has suffered many historical losses due to invasions from neighboring countries like Japan and China. A guest speaker Seo Gil-su(서길수) professor will explain and analyze the intentional distorting of history by Chinese, and plunder of historical legacy during the Japanese occupation of Korea.
Week 15: Traditional Lifestyle Skit
Students will learn about the lifestyles of the Joseon people.
The difference between Yangban (noble class) and Nongmin (peasant class)
Typical dish eaten by each class
Create own skit of Joseon lifestyle
Yangban will wear Gat
Nongmin will wear hairband
Week 16: Idiom Jeopardy
Students will learn about the meanings of Korean idioms and their use in a conversational setting.
Example:
가는 날이 장날
가는말이 고와야 오는말 이 곱다
등잔 밑이 어둡다
쇠뿔도 단김에 빼라
After learning about idioms, students will get to play an idiom game where students are given the first part of the idiom and they have to finish the idiom with an appropriate ending.
Week 17: Historical Landmark
This project will be done in groups to do research on a historical landmark in South Korea. The project will include the following:
The name of the landmark
Where it is located (using google map)
History of the landmark
Significance of the landmark
Images of the landmark
These are just the requirements, more information can be included. This presentation will be done on Google Slides or Microsoft PowerPoint. (Recommended to use a computer).
Landmarks should be assigned to each group, not chosen.
Different landmark for every group.
