Throughout, our process of becoming acknowledged, one of the complaints was that we have no rancheria's, or historical land allotments. This assumption is wrong. After further research, documentation and oral recordings gave us information of one of our rancheria's locations which was acknowledged by a federal agency, the United States Post Office in 1899. Our Tribal District of Dogwood was that 17 acre rancheria, in which all 3 tribal families of the Johnsons (Dixie, Oscer and Fred) who all lived at Dogwood Rancheria, the Gramps family, as the address for this rancheria is 341 Pulga Road, Feather River Canyon and Williams (Billy and Kitty)
Prior to the discovery of gold, the Dogwood District, like the Valley of Konkow, was a major inhabitation zone. Large prement villages were located in this district, such as Tek Tek, Humlukbe and Cy'ly'. Camp Creek and Dogwood Creek surround the area providing yearlong water sources, Kum or roundhouse pit have been located in 5 areas and oral history tells of 9 doctors living in this district at one time, Jim Stevens, Old Doctor Charlie, Dan Williams and Young Charlie
After submitting a petition for acknowledgment in 2003 and again in 2016, receiving a petition number and having both petitions sent back to revise, we have had many governmental changes and setbacks. But through all the hardships of today, just like our ancestors we are still here. We have poured a foundation for financial stability, began to grow our tribal economy, started organizing our government structure and after 30+ years, have finally received our cultural items and ancestors back from Museums and places of education.
As well, traditional lands have been given back ,12 acers so far, we have made partnerships with Local, State and Federal Agencies stronger and preformed our first cultural burn in 120 year within our traditional homelands.
