K of C 1039 Scholarship

Scholarships are available from the Knights!  Entering Freshmen may apply for a $500 scholarship.  See application form below.

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS COUNCIL # 1039

2026 SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION

PURPOSE: To award a maximum of $500.00 each for two scholarships to qualified
graduating seniors. At its discretion the Knights of Columbus may award additional scholarships and reduce dollar amount given to each recipient.

ELIGIBILITY: The scholarship is open to any graduating senior who is a child or grandchild of an active dues paying member of the Knights of Columbus Council #1039, or a child or grandchild of a deceased Defiance Knights of Columbus Council #1039 member.

AMOUNT: One time award of no more than $500.00 per recipient for freshman year of advanced schooling.

PAYMENT: Scholarship funds will be paid directly to the recipient, and can be used to pay any part of incurred college expenses.

CRITERIA: (a) Applicant must be a child or grandchild of an active member in good standing or of a deceased member of Council #1039.

(b) Must be active in a local Catholic parish.

(c) Must submit a concise and factual listing of activities including positions of leadership and offices held in school, church, or other community organizations.  Include any other awards or highlights.

(d) One of the pillars of the Knights of Columbus is charity.  The Defiance Council has donated thousands of dollars to parishes, schools, and organizations.  Applicants must submit an essay of 250-500 words in which they describe what giving back to your community means to you.  

(e) Must include one letter of recommendation from a non-relative.

(f) Must include an official High School transcript.

(g) Neatness and completeness of the application as well as a detailed essay will be considered in selecting recipients and is the sole responsibility of the applicant

(h) Entire packet of application and documents must be submitted to Council #1039 no later than March 1, 2026.  No applications will be considered after that date.

Announcement of the scholarship winners and presentation will be made no later than the scheduled award assembly at respective award-winners school.
