Week 14 - Discovering Andrew
To explore the life and significance of Andrew, one of Jesus' disciples, and understand his role in spreading the Gospel.
John 1:35-42
Andrew is often referred to as the "first-called disciple" because he was among the earliest to follow Jesus. Despite not being as prominently featured as some other disciples, Andrew played a crucial role in the ministry of Jesus. Today, we'll dive deeper into who Andrew was and what his life teaches us about discipleship.
Questions:
What initially drew Andrew to follow Jesus according to John 1:35-39?
Why do you think Andrew immediately sought out his brother Simon (Peter) after encountering Jesus?
Despite being overshadowed by figures like Peter, what unique qualities or contributions do you think Andrew brought to the group of disciples?
How can Andrew's actions of bringing others to Jesus inspire us in our own evangelism efforts today?
In what ways do you think Andrew's humility and willingness to work behind the scenes can be a model for us in serving others?
Reflect on a time when you felt like you were in Andrew's shoes—working in the background or supporting someone else's ministry. What lessons did you learn from that experience?
Activity - Bringing Others To Jesus
Divide the group into pairs or small teams.
Ask each team to brainstorm creative ways they can share the message of Jesus with others, inspired by Andrew's example of bringing Simon to Jesus.
Encourage teams to think about different contexts, such as their neighborhoods, schools, workplaces, or online communities.
After a set amount of time, have each team share their ideas with the rest of the group.
Conclude the activity by discussing practical steps each person can take to actively bring others to Jesus in their own lives.
Andrew may not be as well-known as some of the other disciples, but his role in bringing people to Jesus was vital. Through his example, we learn the importance of humility, evangelism, and supporting others in their journey of faith. As we strive to follow Jesus, may we be inspired by Andrew's commitment to sharing the good news with those around him.
