Week 12 - Discovering Peter
In the New Testament, we encounter a prominent figure who played a pivotal role in the early Christian church—Simon Peter. Also known simply as Peter, he was one of Jesus Christ's closest disciples and a key leader among the apostles. In this lesson, we'll dive into the life of Simon Peter, exploring his identity, his relationship with Jesus, and the lessons we can learn from his experiences.

Questions:
Who was Simon Peter, and what significance did he hold among Jesus' disciples?
What does Jesus' declaration, "You are Peter, and on this rock, I will build my church," signify about Peter's role in the establishment of the Christian faith?
Reflect on Peter's confession of Jesus as "the Messiah, the Son of the living God." What does this reveal about Peter's faith and understanding of Jesus' identity?
Despite his steadfast faith, Peter also experienced moments of doubt and failure, such as when he denied Jesus three times. What lessons can we learn from Peter's shortcomings, and how can we apply them to our own lives?
Consider Peter's transformation from a humble fisherman to a bold preacher and leader in the early church. What factors contributed to his growth and development as a disciple of Christ?
In what ways can we emulate Peter's example of faith, courage, and resilience in our own journey as followers of Jesus?
Activity – Walking On Water
Gather participants around the basin or tub of water.
Invite each participant to reflect silently on a challenge or fear they are facing in their lives, symbolizing the turbulent waters Peter encountered.
Encourage participants to write down their fears or challenges on the paper boats, if using.
One by one, invite participants to step forward and place their paper boats on the water, representing their willingness to trust in Jesus and step out in faith.
As each participant places their boat on the water, encourage them to share a brief prayer or affirmation of trust in God's guidance and provision.
Conclude the activity with a time of reflection and prayer, thanking God for His faithfulness and asking for His strength and courage to navigate life's challenges with faith, just as Peter did.
As we conclude our study on Simon Peter, may we be inspired by his example of faith, courage, and humility. Like Peter, may we continue to grow in our relationship with Jesus Christ, trusting in His promises and following Him faithfully, even in the midst of life's storms. Amen.
