Many people confused the term "flu" for vomiting and diarrhea. Influenza (flu for short) is a respiratory illness caused by a virus. It attacks the nose, throat and lungs. Symptoms can range from mild to severe. Influenza causes numerous hospitalizations each year and can lead to death. Influenza can be treated with antiviral medication but this medication usually needs to be started within the first 48 hours after developing symptoms.
CarrisHealth will be coming to KMS on Wednesday, October 19, 2019 for a seasonal influenza vaccination clinic. This clinic will be during the school day. Both the influenza shot and flu mist are available. Immunizations will only be given to students who have sign parental consent.
The Minnesota Department of Health recommends that parents use this screening tool to assess their children's health status daily.
