Every student has access to their courses and grades through Infinite Campus which they may find through Clever. Parents may sign up to receive access to Infinite Campus and may set alerts when new grades are entered. Mrs. Judith Carlson in the front office may assist you if you are unable to access this.
Students are expected to be seated in the classroom once the bell rings at 7:35AM to be considered on time. If arriving by carpool and the carpool gate is closed, a parent or guardian must park and walk their child to the front office to check in as tardy. Be sure to give your child enough time to walk to their classroom from carpool to be marked on time!
If you know your child will be absent, you may email your child's homeroom teacher and Mrs. Judith Carlson in the front office. Excused absences and tardies are defined by Georgia law as follows: personal illness; serious illness or death in the family; and religious holiday. Please send a note or contact Mrs. Judith Carlson in the front office at 678-874-6602 for attendance excuses or questions related to attendance concerns. For three of more days absent in a row, please send in a doctor's excuse. KMS follows the Georgia Board of Education attendance guidelines.
When you are running late in the morning and the carpool lane is no longer open, please park and bring your child to the front office. You will need to escort your child inside. Please be sure that you have your government-issued ID to present at the front door for entry. If you are checking your child in later due to an appointment or traffic, you will go to the front office and use the QR code there to check your child in. The office will look at the schedule and find where your child will need to report. If you will be checking out your child out early, please come to the front office. You will scan the QR code to check out your student and the office will call the class for your child so they may pack their belongings and meet you at the front office. Due to our carpool like being so incredibly long, we always recommend arriving by 1:45 at the latest for an afternoon checkout.
Students have access to the homework calendar at www.kms4th.com and many subjects have developed Canvas courses where work and study aids are linked. Because many classes adjust their lessons to differentiate for the students enrolled, teachers do not prepare work ahead of time for students. For absences, we allow that many days once they return to complete the work. It is completely the student's responsibilty to do so. All teachers will gladly work with your child, but because our school moves so quickly, it is difficult to play "catch up" with all subjects. If students are well, we have many who reach out and want the work while they are at home. Again, www.kms4th.com is the best resource as all homework will be noted there.
There are very few acceptable reasons for late homework. If there is an emergency or other very serious issue prohibiting a child from completing his/her assignments, the parent should contact the child’s teachers to request an extension the day the work is assigned. Excuses given after the assignment is due will not be considered except in the case of serious emergencies which prohibit communication in a timely manner and/or email from a parent about the issue (ex: power outage).
Late Work Policy
Homework, Short-term & Long-term Projects, etc
1 day late -11%
2 days late -21%
3 days late -31%
4 or more days late or not submitted will be counted as a zero unless submitted before
the end of the 4.5 week grading period, at which point 50% credit will be awarded.
For students with missing assignments, the teacher may pull them from electives to complete missing work at least one time per week.
Tutorials are scheduled by each content teacher, as needed. Tutorial needs are based on assessments and observations throughout each teacher's classroom. If your child is struggling, please reach out to that subject's teacher. Additional practice may be provided in addition to a tutorial session.
Please note: Students cannot stay for tutorials without advanced notice to the teacher. Please plan accordingly.
Students attending an after school club or tutorial may check in to aftercare once their session ends, if needed. If registered for aftercare, your child may stay to be picked up using typical aftercare procedures.
If your child is attending a club, please refer to the email from the club’s teacher for the specific pickup time.
For students attending a previously scheduled tutorial, please note that tutorials end promptly at 3:10PM.
If you are picking up your child by car from either a club or tutorial, please use the back carpool lane for pickup. This helps keep traffic flowing safely and ensures students are released to the correct location.
