Teaching Portfolio

Kelsey McCain, PharmD

I am excited to showcase my experience and growth in teaching and facilitation from this fruitful year! I am currently a PGY-1 Pharmacy Resident at University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) Medical Center. I am lucky enough to participate in the UAMS College of Pharmacy Teaching Certificate Program. This website is the aggregated product of my teaching experiences, evaluations, observations, and selective experiences. You will also find my teaching philosophy and my reflections on this experience.

My future career will begin at St. Vincent Infirmary in Little Rock, Arkansas as a Clinical Pharmacist specializing in the Intensive Care Unit. My career goals in this position and for the future include becoming a Board Certified Critical Care Pharmacist (BCCCP) and to participate in Resident Advisory Committees (RACs) for PGY-1 or PGY-2 residency programs. My goals that incorporate teaching include facilitating future pharmacy residents and providing education to interdisciplinary audiences.

Participation in this Teaching Certificate Program has enhanced my confidence and ability to teach different learners in different settings with varying knowledge bases, effectively write measurable goals, and to know my limitations in assessing a learner's comprehension. I now have a better understanding on the organization and preparation that is required to plan and facilitate a learning experience.

Originally from the Dallas area, I moved to Little Rock, Arkansas after earning my Bachelor’s of Science degree in Kinesiology at the University of North Texas, while playing collegiate volleyball, in Denton, Texas. Later I completed my pre-pharmacy coursework at Texas Woman’s University in Denton, Texas. In 2017, I received my Doctorate of Pharmacy Degree from the UAMS College of Pharmacy and graduated with honors in Research and Experiential Education. In just a few short weeks I'll be completing my PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency, and taking the big first step into my own clinical practice. Currently, emergency medicine, critical care, and implementation are my peak professional interests. Below you will find a link to my current Curriculum Vitae which also has my direct contact information. Please contact me with any inquiries you may have!
