In Language Arts we will study literature and composition of a variety of texts. I have designed the course to be a rich, engaging, and thought-provoking experience to help you become a better reader, writer, listener, speaker, critical thinker, and member of society. You will develop critical reading and composition skills that will set you up for success now and in the future.

This course follows the district guidelines for grading and reporting.
Major Grades 60%
Minor Grades 40%
Major Grades: Students will have the opportunity to retest major grades, with completion of reteach and test corrections, up to an 80.
Minor Grades: Students will have the opportunity to retest minor grades, with completion of redo work, up to a 70.
Up to 20 pts. may be deducted.
Students have 5 days past the initial due date to complete work for credit.
Late work will be entered as “0/Missing” in the grade book until it is regraded.
It is the responsibility of the student to check for missed work immediately upon returning to school.
Students have three days to make-up missed work for absences without any penalties. After the third day, any missing assignments will be considered late and will be graded according to the policy.

Any classwork that is not finished becomes homework.
Homework may be assigned by the teacher to be completed by a certain date. Metacognition Reading Logs might need to be done at home if student is not utilizing opportunities provided during the school day.
Homework help will be available M - F from 7:45 - 8:15 AM or by appointment.
Knight Lab is available in the mornings from 7:45 - 8:15 AM in the library.
Academic dishonesty will NOT be tolerated under any circumstances. Cheating, copying, or plagiarism of any form will result in the following consequences:

Continuously disrupting the class/use of inappropriate language
Cheating on an assessment or quiz
Horseplay of any nature, including with friends

We will be reading daily. Each student should bring a book to class every day. We visit the library every 2 weeks.
We will begin working on Metacognition Reading Journals, which will count for major grades throughout the year. Students will have time in class and Catapult, but may need to work on it as home.

There will be a focus on grammar and editing.
