In honor of Black History Month, we will be creating a garden of poetry in the 9th grade commons. To participate, select a poem by a Black poet or write an original poem. You may pull a poem out of the SEEDS to READ folder (pictured below), find one using the links below, find one on your own, or create your own poem.
Use colored paper to create a flower or plant - abstract or realistic - and copy the poem on to your creation. If you need a visual aide to get started, I'll have one for you in class, but, honestly, (almost) anything goes.
Due on or before Thursday, Feb. 28
You can select any poem you wish, and you may even use spoken word pieces from YouTube or songs with school-appropriate lyrics. If you need help, here are some links to help you get started:
"Sympathy" by Paul Laurence Dunbar
"We Wear The Mask" by Paul Laurence Dunbar
"Blk History Month" by Nikki Giovanni
"The Song of the Feet" by Nikki Giovanni
"Won't You Celebrate With Me" by Lucille Clifton
"A Woman Speaks" by Audre Lorde
