Vocal Music Teacher
The Vocal Music Teacher shall help each participating student achieve a high level of skill and knowledge of fundamentals of vocal music.
This is a general description. If the position is divided by grade level, the teacher should carry out any of the following activities that apply to his/her grade level.
Position Description (In addition to Classroom Teacher)
1. Work closely with principal(s) in scheduling concerts, contests and trips;
2. Provide each student an opportunity to audition, participate, and practice in the vocal music activity of his/her choice;
3. Plan, schedule and supervise student participation in individual and small group contests, concerts, appearances;
4. Supervise the promotion of concerts and ticket sales;
5. Assist drama teacher in planning, scheduling and supervising program of tryouts and practices for musical;
6. Give individual students instruction in vocal skills and fundamentals necessary for achievement in contests and musicals;
7. Conduct individual vocal music lessons;
8. Develop musical talent of each student to the fullest;
9. Responsible for matters pertaining to organization and administration of vocal music program and enforce SDHSAA rules as necessary;
10. Conduct a general meeting with all vocal music participants at the beginning of the year to review practice schedules, school and music department rules;
11. Cooperate with the administration and fellow teachers to promote the best interests of the entire music program;
12. Conform to school policy in ordering equipment and supplies for the vocal music program;
13. Arrange out-of-town trips with principal(s) at least one week in advance of the trip;
14. Assume responsibility for conduct of participants;
15. Responsible for care and storage of equipment and supplies;
16. Supervise and conduct fund drives approved by principal and School Board;
17. Direct and develop mixed chorus, ensemble groups and soloists;
18. Provide music groups to perform for community functions that are in the best interest of students and school and approved by principal(s);
19. Perform at high school functions when requested by principal;
20. Promote activities of the group in newspaper and media;
21. Schedule vocal activities through principal(s) before beginning of school year;
22. Provide vocal music instruction for elementary students in bi-weekly classes;
23. Direct and develop elementary programs.
