Keynote Speaker

Jami Powell currently serves as the systems librarian in the Grace Doherty Library at Centre College in Danville, Kentucky. Prior to library work, she provided technology support to Centre faculty and staff and designed and supported classroom systems and lab environments. Jami brings her detail-focused, problem-solver's approach to mediating the complex communication divide that often exists between people and technology. She’s always in search of the most direct, clear way to say or write or demonstrate concepts, whether library policy, how-to videos, staff workflows or student disputes. In addition to her library role, Jami is an active campus leader within nonviolent communication and empathy practice groups, the College’s Diversity and Community Committee, Posse Scholar student mentorship and the library’s annual Diversity Book Club discussions. She is committed both professionally and personally to the concepts of compassionate and clear communication and has extensive training in the principles of nonviolent communication, intergroup dialogue and community roundtable dialogue facilitation. Jami has a BA in English and Professional Writing from the University of Kentucky and an MFA in Creative Nonfiction Writing from Spalding University.
