studied law at Moscow State University where he also studied history, philosophy, linguistics, language, literature and aesthetics
taught psychology, published many books with the most notable being “Thought and Language” that explores the relationship between words and consciousness
according to Costley (2012), Vygotsky developed theories about childhood development that emphasized the contribution of the historical, cultural and social norms and interactions on human development

studied at the University of Neuchâtel where he earned his PhD.
guided by a question of, according to the website Piaget.org (2017), “How does knowledge grow?”
studied the development and acquisition of language of his three children.
concluded that knowledge is constructed and that children’s and adult’s modes of thinking differ.
famous for “Psychology of the Child” which outlines four major stages of child development

at the age of fifteen, enrolled in the University of Vermont
received his doctorate at Johns Hopkins University and taught at the collegiate level until he retired in 1930
strong proponent of educational reform and was a prolific writer
known for his book, “Democracy and Education” where he outlines the importance of an inquiry based education
