Each spring and fall, the Kiwanis Club organizes a Village Cleanup Day as part of the City of Ottawa's Cleaning the Capital campaign. Volunteers from Kiwanis and other groups first meet for breakfast at Miller's Oven and then proceed along designated streets to pickup garbage and debris before the start of the next seasons activities.
ROSSS plays a critical role in our local health care system providing affordable, quality health and social programs that support older adults, adults living with disabilities, and their caregivers who reside in rural communities south of Ottawa. Each year, our Kiwanis Club provides financial support to ROSSS that most recently included a donation to help purchase a replacement support vehicle.
YOMA is a registered not-for profit organization created by youth for youth in Manotick. YOMA provides a safe, accessible and welcoming space for youth in rural Ottawa south. The ultimate goal of YOMA is to be able to build a youth centre, which would offer community focused social and preventative programs, intervention services, life skills development and leadership opportunities. Each year, our Kiwanis Club provides financial support to YOMA that most recently included an additional donation to help outfit a new location to meet their programming needs.
Each year our Kiwanis Key Clubs partner with local grocery stores to run a Food Cupboard Drive with all of the proceeds going to the local Food Cupboards in Manotick, Barrhaven and Riverside South. The Key Clubbers package and sell grocery bags, collect cash and help customers bag their groceries. Our Kiwanis Club provides adult oversight along with a cash donation to each Food Cupboard organization.
The Kiwanis Club of Manotick is very proud to support the Kemptville District Hospital (KDH) Foundation’s Crossroads Campaign to acquire a Computed Topography Scanner (CT Scanner). Over the last two years, our Club has donated more than $24,000 to this worthy cause. Having a CT Scanner at KDH benefits patients and their families, the hospital’s operations and the regional health system.
Our Kiwanis Key Clubs came up with the idea to collect blankets for the homeless a couple of years ago. Since then, the annual project has grown to involve their entire high schools, as well as other community groups including the Manotick Legion and St. James Anglican Church. Hundreds of blankets and warm clothing items collected are given to each of the Salvation Army, Shepherds of Good Hope and the Ottawa Mission along with Kiwanis cash donations.
Past Projects
The Mahogany Harbour Dock provides a wonderful multi-use access point to the Rideau River for everyone in the community. Boaters and Manotick residents can enjoy the vista, the tie-up docks, the park features with easy access to the Village businesses, cultural and historic services and amenities. Our Kiwanis Club, along with other community groups, provided the funding to build this beautiful facility.
Built in 1860, Watson's Mill has been the most important historical attraction in our community for decades. Thousands of tourists come to Manotick each year to tour the Mill along with Dickinson House. Our Kiwanis Club, along with other community groups, provide additional funding to the Mill when needed for unexpected maintenance activities.
Centennial Park is Manotick's recreational hub offering a variety of amenities. It features sports fields, a skate park, basketball courts, and a new pump track, making it a popular spot for both active recreation and relaxation. Our Kiwanis Club, along with other community groups have supported the park whenever extra funding was needed for improvements, including the Manotick Community Centre expansion, skate park and new basketball courts.
The Miller's Oven is a non-profit tea room managed by a volunteer board, officially named The Rideau Miller's Oven Seniors Committee. The Miller's Oven has evolved over the years and is a full-service restaurant serving breakfast, lunch and snacks, six days a week. Our Kiwanis Club has a very close relationship with the restaurant, holding many of our project meetings there and providing financial support when needed. In 2024, we donated money towards a new floor.
