If you're struggling to afford food right now, you're not alone. Under Doug Ford, groceries cost more than ever for individuals and families in Ontario. We deserve a government that will crack down on price fixing and other unfair practices, and put money back in your pocket. A Family Outreach Worker can help you find services that you and your family may need in the community if you have children ages 17 or younger and are living on low income. The Region of Waterloo Dental Health Resources webpage has details and application information for free dental care for people without dental insurance coverage, as well as seniors, children, and recipients of Ontario Works and ODSP. In addition, educators and families can access videos and information sheets to help support dental hygiene habits in children. Ask your child's school if your child can participate in any upcoming free dental screenings.
Vision checks with an optometrist are FREE for children ages 0-19 in Ontario with a valid Health Card. Children in Kindergarten are eligible for a FREE pair of glasses through the Eye See, Eye Learn program. For more information, send an email to: esel@optom.on.ca.
If your child has missed the age cutoff for this program, you can try reaching out to your child's school if you are struggling to afford glasses. They may be able to connect you with a community organization that helps to pay for glasses for children living with low income and no private insurance coverage.
Wearing a bicycle helmet can help to prevent brain damage in the case of a crash. In Ontario, all people under the age of 18 must wear a helmet. Each Spring, the Lidz on Kidz program gives away free bicycle helmets to children who may not otherwise be able to afford a helmet. Watch for information in early March!

Fee assistance is available for both adults and children if you would like to participate in city programs but do not have enough money to pay for registration. For more information, please visit the CITY OF KITCHENER WEBSITE.
Additional fee assistance is available for children if they would like to participate in sports activities (including those that are not run through City programs). For more information and an application form, visit the Kidsport website. Kidsport funding is paid directly to the organization running the sport or classes.
If you are struggling to pay for organized sports or fitness class registration fees, equipment, and transportation for children aged 4-18, you may also qualify for additional jumpstart funding paid directly to the organization. Start by filling out an application for funding through the jumpstart program.
