The goal of this project was to evaluate statistics on social media and research its impact. I also took a quiz to see how addicted I am to social media.
After taking the "Am I ADDICTED to social media?" quiz, I found out that I an fairly reliant on social media. The quiz said
You're fairly reliant on social media, but there are far worse culprits! Still, it's good to be reminded that UK adults spend an average of 8 hrs 41 mins on screens every day, and 4 hours of that on smartphone apps alone (mainly social media). That's about a third of each day checking apps. Do you need to rethink your social media habits and the amount of time you spend scrolling?
I would agree with this statement because I usually check social media, whether it be TikTok or Twitter, on my free time.
An interesting fact that I learned is that 65% of adults in the U.S. who are under 30 years old report using Snapchat. I find this interesting because I didn't know that many people still use Snapchat, as I feel it has died out over the years. I stopped using Snapchat years ago so I am surprised so many still use it.
I would say that there are both positives and negatives when it comes to using social media. One of the major downsides of social media is the spread of misinformation. A single influencer can start a rumor or spread false information and it can quickly spread, leading to confusion or potentially causing a crisis. One good thing that comes from social media is that it can be educational. Another positives it that it connects people around the world, creating communities.
I've come to realize that I spend too much time on social media and should probably take some time off to do other activities. Instead of browsing on social media, I could go out with my family to the park or catch up on the book that I've been reading.
