Criteria for consideration of properties for nomination and inclusion in the Kiowa County Historic Register is listed below. Buildings, sites, or other properties must meet at least one criteria to be considered for designation.

The property is associated with events that have made a significant contribution to the broad pattern of our local, state, or national history.
The property is associated with the lives of persons significant in our past.
The property embodies the distinctive characteristics of a type, period, or method of construction; or is the work of a master; or possesses high artistic value; or represents a significant and distinguishable entity whose components may lack individual distinction.
The property has yielded, or may be likely to yield, information important in prehistory or history.
The property is the location of a significant historic event.
