What is Digital Access?
Digital access is the ability for ALL students to use technology. It is important to remember that not everyone has access to the internet. There should be multiple options provided so that activities and homework can be completed at home. These options can be things like free access to the internet in the community or a take-home computer/iPad.
Digital access is being able to use tools and different types of technology. These are things such as the internet, computers, and tablets. However, not everyone has full access to these things and it is hard for them to participate.
Example #1
A teacher gives the students a homework assignment where they have to visit a website and do an activity.
They have to get on an educational math site and do two addition activities. To prove they complete it, their parents must sign their homework sheet.
This would not be fair for everyone in the classroom because not all students have access to the internet or a computer.
It is best to save digital activities for the school day!
Example #2
A teacher has a newsletter that is sent out every other week, but it is only available online.
In order for the parents and students to see the newsletter, they must get on the internet.
This would not be fair to every family because not every family can easily get on the internet.
It would be best to have a few hard copies that can be picked up as well!
