The Book of Esther is a true story found in the Old Testament in the Bible. A lot happened with God's People before Esther.
God's people, the Israelites (also called the Jews), were slaves in Egypt. God used Moses to rescue his people. Then they wandered in the desert for many years, but God always protected them. Eventually, God gave the, a home - the Promised Land. The Israelites could love as God's people, in His kingdom. But, over time, God's people kept choosing their own way instead of God's way. Their land was taken over, their country was destroyed, and many of God's people scattered and lived in other countries. Now they are living in a foreign land under a king who doesn't follow God.
That king was names Xerxes. His queen was Vashti. One day he called for her, but she disobeyed his wishes and didn't go to him. King Xerxes was angry. He banned Queen Vashti from the castle and from Persia - the country where they lived.
King Xerxes is very different than God our King. Let's look at the differences:
Became angry over disobedience and didn't forgive the Queen.
A man who is a sinner. He isn't always loving or wise.
Loves us even though we disobey.
God is our King! He loves us so much He makes a way for us to be part of His Forever Kingdom.
Read chapter 1 of Esther.
God rescued his people then, and is still rescuing his people today. He sent Jesus to be our Rescuer. We see this in Psalm 100:3.
Know that the LORD, he is God. It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
What does this verse mean? How does it apply to you?
Pray and thank God for always loving us and rescuing his people.
