I am an Associate Professor (Kōshi) at Kanazawa University. I received my BA in Comparative Literature from the University of Tsukuba and completed the doctoral coursework in Language and Information Sciences at the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, the University of Tokyo.
After completing my undergraduate studies, I explored various career paths that allowed me to work in English, including training in simultaneous interpretation and working as an in-house translator at a manufacturing company. I later decided to pursue graduate studies at the master’s and doctoral levels, which ultimately led to my doctoral degree. Through encounters with many people and scholarly works, my research interests gradually developed toward applied linguistics, particularly qualitative sociolinguistic approaches.
I have taught academic writing and English language courses at vocational schools and universities. Since my time as a graduate student, I have also been actively involved in writing center–related initiatives, supporting students’ learning processes.
