Bands at Kilmer

WE HAVE A BAND FOR EVERYONE!

There are five band courses offered at Kilmer MS:

Preparatory Band –This class includes students with no prior experience, those wanting to learn a new instrument, and those who have played before but have not yet mastered elementary level fundamentals on their instrument. Students who have no prior experience or those wanting to learn a new instrument will work with the band director at the beginning of the year to select an instrument on which they will be successful.

Percussion Ensemble –In order to develop the variety of technical skills necessary to play the many percussion instruments available at KMS, some percussion students meet in their own class. These students will perform as a percussion ensemble at their performances. This is not a beginning class and is only offered to students who have previously played percussion in a school band program or who have acquired a requisite level of skill through opportunities like private lessons or summer music camps.

Concert Band –The Concert Band is an intermediate level ensemble comprised of students in the 7th and 8th grades. These students usually have at least one or two years of playing experience. Instruction focuses on fundamental instrument techniques.

Wind Ensemble –The Wind Ensemble is an advanced level band comprised of students in the 7th and 8th grades. Students in this class have developed technique well beyond the average elementary student by the beginning of the year.

Symphonic Band –The Symphonic Band is an advanced level band and is the premiere ensemble at Kilmer Middle School. It is comprised of 7th and 8th grade students with fundamental skills on their instrument well beyond the average middle school student.
