Our app needs to understand the user’s AI awareness level and their child’s age in order to determine the best way to help the user. So, we added an onboarding quiz at the beginning with a progress bar so the user does not feel impatient while getting through the questions. In the dashboard, we color-coded screen time based on apps to improve readability. We color-coded the different types of content being viewed by the child as well, so that parents can quickly figure out if their child is watching a concerning level of harmful content. The alerts page is also color-coded, and the AI and harmful content have short descriptions on why they can be harmful. The alerts page created some confusion during testing, so we added all this to make the page more readable. The control center has sliding scales and simple buttons, with short explanations of what they each do, so as to minimize confusion. The co-learn page has options to learn individually or with the user’s child, which helps to facilitate conversations about AI and improves both the user and the child’s AI awareness. We included the option to add multiple child profiles because a parent could have any number of children, and this way, each child gets personalized warnings and learning content. We also included a community section so that parents can learn from each other and help each other out.
