We offer five classrooms at KDD, ranging from 1 year and walking through 5 years old. Below is a rough outline of how we determine which child to place in which classroom. These are outlines, not absolutes. Final classroom placement is based upon enrollment numbers. We do our best to place children in the classroom in which they will thrive with their peers.
Brown Bears class is for children 1 year and walking through 2 ½.
Red Birds is for children who will be 2 ½ by September. Children in Brown Bears who will turn 2 ½ by December, will be moved up to Red Birds with a spot held for them.
Yellow Ducks is for children who are 3 by September.
Green Frogs is for children turning 4 over the summer through December and turning 5 in April and May. Children in Green Frogs will either move to Gold Fish or head to kindergarten depending on their birth month.
Gold Fish is designed as a junior kindergarten classroom. Children in the Golf Fish class will turn 5 at some point in the school year or in the summer before. The Gold Fish class provides an extra year to prepare children for the rigors of kindergarten and sets children on the path to turn 6 in the summer before or during kindergarten.
Classes are limited to 10 children in Brown Bears and Red Bird classrooms and 12 children in the Yellow Ducks, Green Frogs, and Gold Fish classrooms. Every classroom has one lead teacher and one classroom assistant creating a 5:1 or 6:1 child to teacher ratio.
‘Toilet training' is not a requirement but is encouraged by 3 years old.
