Plants & Cuttings
Just a note about the plant sale at the Cream Tea event on Saturday 1st August.
If anyone has any plants or cuttings they would be happy to donate for the day,
they can be dropped off at
Bridgette Taylor's gate, 4 High Street, Kibworth Beauchamp, (opposite the Swan pub),
at anytime, and she will take care of them.
Thank You!
Creative Writing Group
This group began in Feb 2026, so we’re pretty new to this! We meet on the first Thursday afternoon of the month. We’re curious to see where our individual writing might take us, in response to other writing or stimuli (sculpture, or the churchyard, for example.)
We’re discovering an amazing range of inventiveness between us, and we have a lot of fun sharing, discussing and encouraging each other.
Unfortunately, we can’t accommodate more members at the moment.
How about starting another group yourself?
Klaus Heinrich
Warning!!!
Addendum
Stephen writes,"Having spoken with Bill and his wife at this year's Blaston Show he says it might be better if we came along in early September - perhaps a couple of weeks earlier, in fact - as the crop of grapes will be ripening much sooner with this year's fine and sunny weather."
He already has 10 names of interested parties, however some of these may drop out with the slight change of date, so do contact Stephen soon if you'd like to go.
Holiday Sketch from Su
In homage to David Hockney
The K & D u3a Landscape and Architecture group spent a few hours investigating and appreciating the plans of Arthur Wakerley (Wakerley Road is named after him) in North Evington. He wanted to build a garden city. He built a community with its own market place, housing, workshops, town hall, fire station and police station. We were fascinated by his thinking and actions. Our picture shows some of the properties we came across (Not all by A W). The guided tour was ably led by historian David Holmes. Part way through our tour we repaired to The White House at Scraptoft to quench our thirsts.
Our programme continues throughout the summer as follows:
Thursday 16 July - Rutland Heritage Trail No 4 - Mills, Quarries and Railways led by John Freeland. Meet at North Luffenham Church, Rutland. Lunch at The George and Dragon, Seaton.
Thursday 20 August - Rutland Water - led by Karen Spencer. More details nearer the date.
Thursday 17 September - A day trip to Birmingham by train (most likely from South Wigston Station) with Janice Hooper-Roe and Hazel Taylor including visiting the magnificent Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery for refreshments.
Thursday 15 October - another trip by bus into Leicester. We shall be looking at the Old v New, Curve v Athena, and finally end up at the Phoenix café for lunch with Stephen.
All of these trips are open to members of the Kibworth & District u3a. Send an email to stephenpoyzer@gmail.com and state which outing you would like to join in.
