CPT :  How did you succeed to introduce the World Logic Day in the UNESCO calendar?

JYB:   I created the 1st World Logic Day on January 14, 2019, managing celebrations in about 60 locations all over the world, among them: Warsaw, Istanbul,  St Petersburg, Budapest, Kolkata, Vienna, Florence, Paris, Valparaiso, Vatican, Rio de Janeiro, Perth, Vancouver, Lisbon, Kiev,  Mecca, Berlin, Athens.

After that, on the one hand I published a detailed report in the journal Logica Univeralis, and on the other hand I asked important logicians to write letters of support. In April 2019, I went to Paris to meet the Ambassador of Brazil at UNESCO, Maria Edileuza Fontenele Reis, for this day to be a world UNESCO day (I am originally from Switzerland but working in Brazil since a couple of years).

After the approval by the Brazilian government, the Ambassador presented the proposal during the meeting of the UNESCO Executive Council, backed by 17 other countries, where it was approved on October 17, 2019, and then submitted it to the general assembly of UNESCO where it was approved at unanimity on November 26, 2019.  It was the fastest recognition of an international day by UNESCO.  In this video the Ambassador tells the story.

I designed a World Logic Day Flag based on the Esperanto flag.  The idea of Zamenhof, creator of Esperanto, was to promote peace and understanding among human beings by the development of an artificial universal language. This did not work. More important than a universal language is human reason, which by nature is itself universal, and this is an excellent reason to promote logic. The flag of Esperanto is a five-pointed green star. Green is the color of hope. For the WLD flag, I added a blue circle around this green star. Blue is the color of certainty; this is to guarantee that this time the boat will not sink.
