Welcome to my website!

I am a syntactician in training, who has had the good fortune of studying under dedicated mentors such as Michael Diercks, Theresa Biberauer, and Ian Roberts.  I started my PhD studies in linguistics at UC Berkeley in Fall 2022, where I primarily work with Amy Rose Deal and Line Mikkelsen.

Professionally, I go by Franco Liu ['fɹæ̃ŋ.kʰoʊ lioʊ]. My legal name is pronounced [lioʊ̌ kʰáŋ] in Mandarin. My pronouns are he/him.

During the 2023-24 academic year, Shweta Akolkar and I are co-organizing the Syntax & Semantics Circle at UC Berkeley. If you are interested in giving a talk there, please feel free to email me!
