Shweta Akolkar

I'm a postdoctoral research associate in the Program in Linguistics at Princeton University. I recently completed my PhD from UC Berkeley, where I was advised by Amy Rose Deal. My dissertation, titled Ergative case and hidden argument structure: Studies in Indo-Aryan, can be found here.

My primary research interests are in syntax, semantics, and language documentation. My recent work focuses on modality, case marking, and self-reference and perspective in attitude reports across languages.

Since 2019, I have been working on the documentation and description of Bishnupriya Manipuri in collaboration with speakers based in New York City and with the Endangered Language Alliance.
