My work so far largely centers around Bantu and Gur languages (sub-Saharan Africa), specifically those spoken in western Kenya and Côte d'Ivoire

Since 2017, I have been actively contributing to the documentation of Tiriki (or Lutirichi; JE413, Bantu-Luyia), alongside Michael Diercks (Pomona College), Michael Marlo (University of Missouri), and other collaborators. I have been mostly working with Kelvin Alulu, our incredible Tiriki language consultant (pictured above).

Starting 2022, I began the collaborative language documentation work on Lobi (or Lobiri), a Gur language spoken in Côte d'Ivoire and Burkina Faso, alongside many collaborators including Sansan Claude Hien, Hannah Sande, and Shweta Akolkar (all at UC Berkeley). We are currently working toward publishing our fieldwork materials at the California Language Archive and producing an edited volume of Lobi grammar sketches and text collections.

In fall 2023, I began working on Northern Tujia in collaboration with Huawu Xiang (Chinese Academy of Social Sciences).

You can check out or download most of my more theoretically-engaged work on these understudied languages (handouts and manuscripts) below.
