The mechanical key remains fully intact and functional.
It is still required to unlock the steering wheel lock and is part of the vehicle's mechanical security. 

KEYSTARTER merely augments the system with an electronic start authorization – the key is not replaced.

KEYSTARTER offers you several deliberate starting options:
