Dr. Patrick (Pat) Keys is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Atmospheric Science at Colorado State University

His research is focused on a broad range of global challenges, including climate change impacts, cross-scale risks, and social-ecological tele-connections. He has developed modeling tools for examining terrestrial moisture recycling, aimed at leveraging geophysical insights for resource management and how humans interact with the atmospheric water cycle. He also works to understand how futures methods can be used to qualitatively and quantitatively discern a sustainable path forward for society.

Prior to joining the Department of Atmospheric Science, Pat served as the Lead Scientist at CSU's School of Global Environmental Sustainability (SoGES). In addition to leading international science efforts, Pat supported SoGES' collaborative, cross-campus sustainability research initiatives and developed new integrative curriculum.

Previously, Pat founded an environmental consultancy that worked with local and international partners. In collaboration with different partners, he explored food security in the UAE, the link between drought and conflict in sub-Saharan Africa, and climate change adaptation and mitigation in Fort Collins. He has also conducted fieldwork in Alaska (fish biology), Wyoming (burrowing owl behavioral ecology), American Samoa (indigenous perspectives on conservation), Morocco (agricultural water policy), Suriname (small-scale water supply), and Vietnam (climate change impacts).
