Reflection: In the fall of 2021, during my technology in PE class, we were tasked to engage with other PE professionals on Twitter for one week. I found this to be a perfect opportunity to enhance my professional ethics and cultural competence. Many PE professionals live in other countries so it was interesting to see how I could apply some of their tactics given our cultural differences.
Much of modern communication happens via technology. For that reason, I feel it’s important to be involved with social media platforms in order to remain informed culturally and professionally. I would often hear my professor say, “don’t try and reinvent the wheel”. What he meant by this was, stay connected with peers and other resources online to shorten the learning curve for yourself and your students. Twitter is a great tool for forming professional connections as well positive engagement with students and athletes. It’s also a good way to find activities that can help you reflect on your teaching style.
It's imperative for us as teachers to continue finding ways to improve activities and lessons. Relying on other processionals online can help us keep a growth mindset. Twitter is, and will continue to be, a useful tool for me to learn, discuss, and connect with other professionals in my field and beyond.

Artifact: Fitness App tutorial (Below)
Date of obtaining artifact: Fall 2021
Reflection: This assignment was a fitness app tutorial I created to promote healthy living outside of the classroom. The reason I choose a fitness app to meet this component is because many of my high school students own a smart phone and have access to fitness facility. This gave me a good opportunity to offer them a chance to stay physically active outside of class.
For proper guidance on how to use the app, I created two tutorials. One of them, I created on my phone's recording tool. This tutorial serves as a crash course on what the app does and how to use it properly. In the second tutorial I take the time to advocate for health and fitness a bit more. There are many apps like this one, but the meat and potatoes of this assignment was to find opportunities for my students to remain active outside of class. JEFIT is unique in its ability to track specific exercises as well as sets and reps performed. My goal is for students to feel about the progress they make as they track. At first glance, the app my seem a bit intimidating because of all the subcategories. Creating these tutorials helps my students feel more comfortable using the app, increasing the likelihood of them exercising at home or in a gym.
Before creating the tutorial, I had some experience using the app myself. It’s important to remember we are role models for our students, and we should practice what we preach. In the future, I will have my high school students use the app and we will reflect on the pros and cons of the app. I may encourage my students to track their progress on the app. Once they have a baseline for the exercises, they choose I will have them set short term and long-term fitness goals.
