On March 5, 2019 Hopkinsville twinned with Carentan-les-Marais, France. They are tied together mainly by the aid sent to Carentan-les-Marais by the 101st Airborne Division (Fort Campbell and by extension Hopkinsville) during World War II.
A road in Hopkinsville was renamed "Carentan Way" after their Sister City!
In March 2025, Sister city delegates from Carentan, France explored Christian County and the surrounding area for a week, culminating in a community presentation. Amy Rogers with Visit Hopkinsville arranged for guests to arrive to exchange knowledge and experiences with the community.
On June 6, 1944, U.S. soldiers, alongside Allied forces, stormed the beaches of Normandy, France, in what would later be known as the D-Day Invasion, a pivotal effort to liberate Western Europe from Nazi German control during World War II. Earlier this June, residents of Hopkinsville and soldiers from Fort Campbell traveled to Carentan, France, to commemorate the 80th anniversary of D-Day.
Hopkinsville and Carentan became sister cities in 2019, following a visit from a French delegation to honor the contributions of Fort Campbell soldiers during World War II. Soldiers from the 101st Airborne Division played a key role in liberating Carentan in the days after the D-Day Invasion.
The Hopkinsville delegation, which included Amy Rogers, Executive Director of Visit Hopkinsville, and Shannon Lane, Director of the Christian County Military Affairs Committee, departed for France on May 31.
Approximately five years after their initial visit, Hopkinsville welcomed a delegation from its sister city, Carentan, France. On Thursday, a meet-and-greet event was held at Hopkinsville Community College, bringing together French students and local county students.
