Tahara and Georgetown were twinned in 1990. The two bonded over their shared involvement with Toyota. 

The beautiful Kentucky Japan Friendship garden located along Elkhorn Creek in Georgetown is a popular spot for visitors. Yuko-en on the Elkhorn is a 4 season garden, open daily from dawn till dusk and is free to the public. It hosts a yearly cherry blossom festival and is one of the United States' largest public Japanese Gardens.
