Our world is continually changing. New technologies and jobs are invented and created every day. When our students step out of our classrooms, there will be jobs we cannot even fathom today. Gen Z and beyond are going to entering a workforce that is unlike previous generations'. These generations will most likely not stay at the same place of employment or even the same career until retirement. Students will need skills that are beyond what our current and past K12 experience prepares them for. So how do we prepare our students for their future?
Our K12 system needs to have a makeover on how we teach our students and we need to change our roles to a facilitator of knowledge, not the gate-keeper. Instead of staying on track with the industrial sit and get model, we need to create experiential learning that calls for creativity, problem-solving, and help expand their world view. When we create these experiences for our students, it helps prepare them for the unknown workforce they will be members of.
