Professional learning networks, also known as PLNs, are great ways to grow as an educator. I know that I would not be the teacher I am today if it weren't for all the teachers before me who shared their ideas and resources with me along the way.
One of the best ways I have found to network is Twitter. I'm still working on growing this network, but follow several other educators, specifically my coworkers. Following my coworkers is a great way for me to see what is happening with my students in other classes. If I know what is happening in other classrooms that my students are in, I am more likely to be able to build a cross-curricular connection. While some schools have specific planning time for cross-curricular lessons, not every school has the ability to work that into the schedule. If you'd like, follow me on Twitter! My handle is @MrsAdamsAlgebra.
I have also found Pinterest to a great PLN! Anytime I need an idea on how I could teach a topic in an interesting or have something besides just a worksheet to practice it, Pinterest is my go-to place.
The first PLN I joined was TCEA. This learning network was running a special for free membership during teacher appreciation week. I joined because I knew I would be applying to the DLL program and thought it would very useful. TCEA sends out a daily digest and weekly tech tips to my email which I find very resourceful.
Another great PLN is the Teaching Channel. I chose the teaching channel as a network because it was a free network that had a great mission statement. Their mission is to create an environment where teachers can watch, share, and learn new techniques to help every student grow.
Lastly, Edutopia is another PLN I chose to be a part of. I discovered this network while doing research for my learning manifesto and found the site to be well organized and user friendly. The articles I read were very informative and helpful.
There are several other amazing PLNs out there. Some PLNs have a yearly membership cost which why I am not able to join all of the PLNs I would like to join. Below is a list of other PLNs I highly recommend checking out.
