About
Helping organizations move beyond basic accessibility to create experiences where more people can participate with confidence, independence, dignity, and choice.
Accessibility is more than whether someone can get through the door.
It is the confidence of knowing what to expect before arriving. The ability to navigate, communicate, participate, and use services with greater independence. The opportunity to experience a place alongside family, friends, colleagues, and community.
That is where Access Beyond begins.

[LEARN ABOUT CERTIFICATION]
A space may technically be accessible and still create barriers that make participation difficult, uncertain, or uncomfortable.
Access Beyond helps organizations look at accessibility differently: as a progression from providing access to creating experiences that consider the whole person and the whole experience.
Access
Establishing the essential foundation that allows people with disabilities to access spaces, services, and experiences.
Independence
Reducing barriers and making experiences easier to navigate and use with greater confidence and independence.
Participation
Creating meaningful opportunities for people with different access needs to participate, engage, and experience what an organization offers.
Leadership
Going beyond established practices to anticipate needs, expand choice, improve experiences, and demonstrate leadership in accessibility.
Accessibility opens the door.
Inclusion considers what happens after someone comes through it.
[EXPLORE THE ACCESSIBILITY FRAMEWORK]
Before visiting a restaurant, hotel, attraction, store, event, healthcare provider, workplace, park, or community space, a person with a disability may have questions other visitors rarely need to consider.
Can I get in?
Can I navigate the space?
Will I be able to communicate what I need?
Can I use the services and amenities?
Can I participate alongside everyone else?
When those answers are difficult to find, people may decide the uncertainty simply is not worth the risk.
Accessibility can change that.
Clear information, thoughtful environments, informed staff, and more inclusive experiences can help people make decisions with greater confidence while helping organizations welcome customers, visitors, employees, families, and communities they may not be reaching today.
[WHY ACCESSIBILITY MATTERS]
An accessible entrance matters. But so does what happens before and after someone enters.
Access Beyond considers the broader experience—from planning a visit and arriving at a location to navigating the environment, communicating, participating, using amenities, receiving service, and leaving safely.
We also recognize that accessibility means different things to different people. Needs may involve mobility, vision, hearing, communication, sensory or cognitive access, non-apparent disabilities, temporary limitations, or needs that change over time.
Better accessibility begins by looking at the experience from more than one perspective.

[EXPLORE OUR SERVICES]
More accessible experiences can help organizations:
Reach more people by reducing barriers that may prevent someone from visiting or participating.
Build confidence by making accessibility information easier to understand before someone arrives.
Improve experiences by considering independence, choice, communication, comfort, and participation.
Strengthen loyalty when people know an organization has thoughtfully considered their needs.
Support families and groups because accessibility decisions often affect where an entire group chooses to go.
Prepare for the future by making accessibility part of ongoing planning rather than responding only when a problem occurs.
Accessibility is not only about accommodating someone who arrives.
It is about creating an experience people can confidently choose in the first place.
Access Beyond™ was founded by Nathan Kells, a communications professional, accessibility advocate, traveler, and wheelchair user.
For years, Nathan experienced a challenge familiar to many people with disabilities: before visiting a business, hotel, attraction, park, event, or public space, there was often no reliable way to know what the experience would actually be like.
Sometimes the barrier was physical. Other times it was communication, information, policies, procedures, or simply uncertainty.
And accessibility at the entrance did not necessarily mean accessibility throughout the experience.
Those experiences helped inspire a simple idea:
People should be able to understand what to expect, make informed choices, and participate as fully and independently as possible.
Access Beyond was created to help organizations make that possible.
To help organizations move beyond compliance and create accessible, inclusive experiences that build confidence, increase participation, strengthen belonging, and improve quality of life for everyone.
