During the summer, there's no homework or extracurricular activities to drain that mental energy. Why not get started on your college essay?
REMEMBER:
Your essay should be NO MORE than 650 words.
Think of your essay as a story rather than a formal essay.
Having a beginning, middle, and end does not mean it should be the "traditional" five-paragraph essay that has an intro, body, and conclusion. INSTEAD, CREATE A NARRATIVE THAT SHOWS THE PROGRESSION OF THE PLOT RATHER THAN TELLS.
Varying your word choice, adding imagery, and using sensory detail doesn't necessarily mean using super fancy language and super complex sentence structure to try make yourself sound like someone you are not. Instead of trying to impress your admissions officer this way, try writing like your speak. But remember, MUG (mechanics, usage, and grammar) MATTER!
DO NOT repeat something that is already stated in your application. A college essay is a place for you to be YOU. This is your chance to show your personality and character.
When describing your topic/event/experience, be sure to describe what you learned from the experience and how it changed you. Think about your personal growth!
Focus on a topic that you feel passionately about. It must show your unique voice! You are the one who has the strongest sense of what that is.
If someone makes corrections or adjustments that do not feel right to you, go with your gut and maintain your uniqueness. After all, it's your essay.
Writing is a process. Write and rewrite.
