While I am a strong believer in the sentiment "you are not defined by the opinions of others," I feel as though my leadership position is nothing without the trust and respect of those I work with. Just as I do when choosing interviewees for my stories, I wanted to make sure I included as many perspectives as possible.

"Kate was the one who inspired me to join journalism, and without her, I wouldn’t be the journalist I am today. Kate’s passion and talent for journalism can be shown through her relentless work ethic and care for other journalists."
Evie Exiner
Y's Tales Photography Manager
"Although Kate and I started as photography partners, our relationship has branched into a friendship. She is always there for me and I can count on her to have my back. She is genuine and isn’t afraid to be herself. Kate has inspired me to be fearless and be my true self. "

"Frankly, I could have pulled any day in the three semesters I was her teacher and found something to showcase her dedication, her initiative, and her gumption. Whether it was working to ensure new students felt included in our classroom, reporting on stories that might easily be set aside, or even working with our English Learners teachers to have articles on students in their program translated into Spanish for their peers to read, Kathryn lives and breathes what it means to lead by example."

"Kathryn’s commitment to journalism extends beyond the classroom. She has pursued opportunities to refine her craft through internships, workshops, and competitions, always striving to improve her skills. Her work, for example, has been featured in Cottage Hill Magazine, further highlighting her talent and work ethic. This fall, Kathryn was offered the chance to cover the IHSA 8A football state championship for a local news publication Cottage Hill Magazine in Elmhurst. Her coverage and photography were featured in the publication as a historic moment in school and local history. She acted as a professional reporter working directly with an acting editor of the magazine, met deadlines, and revised her piece based on her editor’s feedback."

"At times, it feels impossible to give every student the support they need, but Kate is always there to step in. She embraces a mentorship role; guiding our younger students with patience and passion. She doesn't just edit their articles—she builds their confidence, fosters growth, and creates a sense of community that helps other journalism students flourish as both writers and individuals."

"Kate truly illustrates how success and accomplishments are so much more than luck and talent. While she is talented with her writing and video production pursuits, and while she is lucky to attend York High School with all of the opportunities it affords, Kate is accomplished because she dreams big, organizes and plans meticulously, and takes advantage of the opportunities afforded her."
