I have done photography for the past three and a half years, and it is how I stayed connected to the journalism program when I was unable to take the course sophomore year. Over the years I have photographed everything from soccer matches and swim meets, to musicals and orchestra concerts.

The photos below are from the York Live showcase that took place on March 7, 2024. York Live is definitely one of the coolest things we do at my school. Fine Arts Week is a week long performing arts showcase that takes place during the school day. Teachers take their classes to see everything from the pottery displays to the dance concert. However, the highlight of the week is the three sections of York Live, where students get to showcase their individual talents.
It was so cool to photograph all these individuals sharing their unique passions. Everyone is so confident and you cansee that in these photos. Whether it's a band or a solo act, everyone comes together durring these performances. I think what is so special about the week itself is that, unlike football and large sports teams, people in the arts rarely get the chance to display their talnts in front of the whole school. Fine Arts Week is a five day period dedicated to spotlighting the wide range of talent we have.
The photos from this event were used throughout the Spring Magazine, the story about Jose "Pepe" Rivera, and have been used to promote Amature Musicans Club.
My photography journey started at football games and it has been so cool to watch this program grow over the years. The neat thing about football is that it's such a large team that changes every year. I have stood on the sidelines and watched the program grow over the years, making it to the playoffs every year and advancing to the state championships for the first time in York history this year. The atmosphere at football games has always been electric, and it is so great to be a part of that experience and capture these pivotal high school moments. Whether I am taking pictures of the student section, the cheerleaders, or the power plays, nothing beats photographing Friday Night Lights.

2023-2024 HOCKEY SEASON
Hockey has always been my favorite sport and that is partly because I love how fast-pace it is. The passes, the shots, the hits; everything happens in the blink of an eye. While this makes the sport fun to watch, it makes it incredibly difficult to photograph. Although getting vivid action shots may be a challenge at times, it makes capturing that perfect picture all the more gratifying.
These photos are from the 2023-2024 Hockey season, featuring moments on and off the ice. These photos were used in the 2024 senior issue of the York-hi.
THEATER
Drama productions are some of my favorite events to capture. I love watching the shows and capturing the actors emotions in the moment. Seeing one of my peers bring a character to life in such vivid and expressive ways is an amazing thing to capture. Additionally, the productions often used different lighting and the stage set ups allow me to approach photos through unique angles that are not always possible on the sidelines. This allows me to experiment with different perspectives while shooting and new techniques while editing.
These are photos from the 2023 production of "Band Stand" and the 2024 production of "Senza Luce." Many of these photos were featured in my story "York Drama Department sheds light on the importance of innovation"
THE CELEBRATIONS
One of my favorite parts about photography is capturing the moments in-between the action. The celebration shots are always my favorite. I love the soft smile a violinist makes when she finishes her solo, the hugs exchanged after a big win, and the huddle the volleyball team after every play. These are the shots that mean something.
Photos like these can be seen across all of our magazines, specifically in the story "New school slogan “We Are D.U.K.E.S.” strengthens culture and climate"
