COVERS
This cover was a teaser for both our editorial about recognizing diversity within the student body and our featured story about a loss of comradery among the student body.
This was one of the first covers that didn't utilize our school mascot or school merchandise. Instead, this photo acts to reinforce the narrative in an intentional way.
This cover was a teaser for our editorial about the pressures to take rigorous coursework. Often times boosting ones weighted GPA requires them to sacrifice their own well-being.
This illustration was a fun change because we had never done an illustrated cover before.
This cover is an illustrated version of a photo I took at the state football championships. This issue was created as a 'semester in review'so it felt fitting to have the cover reflect one of the more notable successes of that semester. Additionally, the feature story was about the football team, so this cover also acted as a teaser for that article.

DESCRIPTION:
This design uses the school colors to show how the Special Olympics Basketball team gives students the chance to represent the school.
Additionally, the glow effects added around the players puts the athletes in focus and draws attention to the individuals on the team. This symbolizes how the Special Olympics program puts athletes first.
I chose these photos to represent the balance of celebration and skill that athletes bring to the team. Two photos are action shots of students playing, and two photos are candids of celebration.
DESCRIPTION:
This design uses gold colors to tie in with the microphone, and the bronze shades also represent the successes that Jose has had as a singer.
Bringing the individual out of the frame allows for focus to be brought to the person and creates an interesting visual.
The grain of the photo gives the image a raw element and brings the design down to earth. I think this works well in conjunction with the story.
