One of Kaylie's most memorable experiences of her undergraduate studies was being an active team member of the Environmental Leadership Program: Restoring Connections. This service-based learning program stood out to Kaylie due to its mission of reconnecting youth with their local environment. Over the course of 20 weeks, Kaylie worked with a group of other students to develop environmental education curriculum, and deliver her lessons during field trips for local kindergarten through third grade students.
Restoring Connections is a project within the Environmental Leadership program at the University of Oregon. Our goal is to use place-based environmental education to reconnect kindergarten through third-grade students to their local environments.
Environmental education is a lifelong endeavor that has its place in and outside the classroom. It is our mission to foster awareness and concern about the natural world and our relationship to it, which will lead to action in the community and beyond.
