The Photography Workshop, jointly organized by the English and Life Science departments, offered an enriching learning experience under the guidance of wildlife photographer Kaushik Ghelani. Throughout the session, participants explored fundamental photography principles, including the golden point, center focus, symmetry, and depth of field.
Kaushik Ghelani emphasized the role of patience and storytelling in photography, encouraging participants to see beyond the lens. Attendees applied these concepts by capturing five photographs on campus, followed by an engaging discussion and feedback session.
The workshop underscored the significance of creativity, keen observation, lighting, and composition, fostering a deeper understanding of photography as an expressive art form. It inspired participants to experiment with their perspectives and craft compelling visual narratives.

The expert lectures on Indian Poetics by Vinod Joshi
The expert lectures on Indian Poetics by Vinod Joshi at MKBU’s Department of English offered students an in-depth exploration of classical literary theories and their significance in contemporary literary studies. The sessions covered key concepts such as Rasa, Dhvani, Vakrokti, and Auchitya, shedding light on the intricate analytical frameworks that define Indian literary criticism. Through insightful discussions and illustrative examples, students gained a deeper understanding of how these traditional theories continue to shape literary interpretation and creative expression. This workshop not only enriched their appreciation of Indian poetics but also fostered critical engagement with modern literary discourse. The Department of English extends heartfelt gratitude to Vinod Joshi for his enlightening lectures and to Dilip Barad for his invaluable efforts in organizing this intellectually stimulating academic event.
Today's event, organized by the Gujarat Sahitya Akademi, Gandhinagar, in collaboration with the Rashtriya Andhjan Mandal and Kavitakaksh Bhavnagar, was a special tribute to the esteemed literary figure Umashankar Joshi on his birth anniversary under the theme "Nava Ko Utkarsh."
The program began with a mesmerizing musical performance by Firdos Dekhiya and Apeksha Bhatt, featuring soulful renditions of iconic compositions such as "Geet," "Bhomiya Vina Mare," "Ghatma Ghuntay Naam," and "Maro Jivan Ej Mari Vani."
In the first session, speaker Manilal H. Patel delivered an engaging talk on "Mari Champano Var," offering insightful reflections on a mother's soft corner for her son-in-law and the unspoken emotional turmoil of a woman's inner world that leads her in an unexpected direction.
Following this, poetry recitations by Harish Minashru, Vivek Tailor, and Parul Khakkhar captivated the audience with their evocative verses.
The second session featured an insightful discussion by Meenal Dave, who shared fascinating insights into Umashankar Joshi’s literary contributions. The event concluded with poetry readings by Jayesh Bhatt, Paresh Solanki, Jitubhai Vadher ("Ek Sadi No Poro") and Nikunj Bhatt, offering a profound literary experience.
Overall, it was an enriching and delightful event, celebrating the legacy of Umashankar Joshi through music, discourse, and poetry.
The Youth Festival Shibir workshop, organized by the Sharirik Shikshan Vibhag, offered various activities such as elocution, cartooning, clay modeling, poster making, Sugam Sangeet, drama, paper collage, and more. I participated in the elocution event.
This three-day workshop, held from September 14-16, was split between Palitana and Bhavnagar. While activities like Sahitya Vibhag, Drama, and Sangetik Vibhag took place in Palitana, the Lalit Kala events were held in Bhavnagar.
During the event, I had the opportunity to learn from several experts, including Ashish Shukla, Himal Pandya, Madhavi Ma'am, and Vishal Bhadani, who provided invaluable guidance and insights. This was my first experience at such a workshop, and I gained a lot of knowledge while thoroughly enjoying the seasons. Those three days were both memorable and enriching for me.

"Reading Paintings: Art, Skepticism, and Intellectual Inquiry"
On February 28, 2025, the Department of English at Maharaja Krishnakumarsinhji Bhavnagar University hosted an insightful session featuring artist and educator Shailesh Dabhi and his team. Drawing from their experiences at an unconventional art exhibition-cum-competition in Maharashtra, they presented paintings that explored skepticism and atheism, challenging conventional artistic themes and inviting deeper contemplation.
Moving beyond traditional realism, these artworks employed colors, textures, and symbols to provoke thought and question deeply ingrained beliefs. The discussion extended beyond aesthetics, linking to An Artist of the Floating World, a Semester 2 text that explores evolving artistic perspectives and the shifting role of artists in society.
Titled Reading Paintings, the session underscored how art functions not just as a form of creative expression but as a catalyst for intellectual engagement and critical inquiry. Hosted by Bhumiba Gohil , the event fostered meaningful dialogue, reinforcing the idea that paintings are more than visual representations—they are instruments of thought and reflection.
