Kaua‘i Animal Education Farm (KAEF) is a volunteer-run, nonprofit organization founded and operated by a Hawaiian ʻohana to address the many, diverse needs of our community.
Established in 2017, KAEF is Kaua‘i’s only farm animal rescue, providing lifelong sanctuary for more than 170 animals across 19 species—each with a story of resilience and aloha.
But KAEF is more than a rescue. Our 4-acre property is a living classroom, thoughtfully landscaped with native, medicinal, and edible plants. Here, keiki, ʻohana, and community members reconnect with ʻāina, learn about sustainability, and find a safe space for healing, education, and meaningful connection.
With the spirit of ho‘opono (to make proper), our programs are designed to provide interaction, stewardship, and education on the symbiotic relationship between animals, land, and people.
At the heart of our work is serving those most at risk—youth, kūpuna (elders), inmates, and families—offering opportunities for learning, healing, and meaningful connection.
Our mission is simple:
Rescue animals in need
Educate through hands-on programs
Inspire compassion, responsibility, and connection to the ʻāina
For centuries, Kaua‘i has been a prosperous and sustainable home for people, plants, and animals. But the release of unwanted pets and the spread of non-native species have placed stress on our fragile ecosystems. Many native species have already gone extinct, while others continue to struggle.
KAEF provides a better solution—offering a home for animals in need while protecting our environment from further harm. Through donations, volunteer support, and education, we prevent the release of animals into the wild and instead create a place where both people and animals can thrive together.
KAEF is guided by a passionate team of community leaders and volunteers dedicated to our mission and vision for a healthier, more compassionate Kaua‘i.

Strong communication and leadership skills

Gardens that nurture native plants and restore balance to the land
Programs that educate keiki, families, and the community about compassion, culture, and sustainability
We are honored to work alongside businesses and organizations that share our commitment to animals, ʻāina, and community. Their support helps us rescue and care for animals, nurture native ecosystems, and create meaningful educational programs for keiki and ʻohana across Kaua‘i.
