I work at the interface of algebraic combinatorics and geometry. The main objects I study are frieze patterns. You can find out much more about frieze patterns here.
I am currently at the University of Michigan in the sixth year of a Ph.D. in mathematics. I work with Sergey Fomin and co-organize our chapter of the Association for Women in Mathematics. I am planning to graduate in May of 2026.
I am a founding (and current!) moderator of a world-wide Discord server for graduate students in all flavors of combinatorics. My co-founders are Ashleigh Adams and Jodi McWhirter. Send any of us an email if you'd like to join!
From 2022-2025 I was a co-organizer of SUBgroups, which are online peer groups that support first-year math graduate students. You can read an article we wrote about our work here.
I completed a masters' degree at San Francisco State University in algebraic geometry supervised by Emily Clader and Dusty Ross. I co-led the Mathematistas club.
I taught algebra and geometry for 7 years at San Francisco International High School (go huskies!).
I hold a masters' degree in education from the STEP program at Stanford University.
I use she/her pronouns. My legal name is Caitlin Waddle, I go by and publish under Katie Waddle. You can reach me at waddle (at) umich (dot) edu.
